I agree that it's better to focus on the good things. As the saying goes, you get what you focus your attention on. So if I focus on the good things, I will hopefully get more of the good things. ;)

Perhaps Tsuburaya could afford to take a break back when they had money and the Ultra series were really popular. But the company clearly suffered in recent years and had to sell its shares to at least a few companies. Last I heard, Bandai (the toy company) owns like about half of Tsuburaya, which is probably the main reason the recent series are so toy-centric.

You weren't alone. Ginga was the first series to return to TV after six years of no new Ultraman series, so fans had high expectations. I was actually in the minority in having practically no expectation, so I was surprised and happy with Ginga. I will still say that most of the fans who didn't like Ginga at least enjoyed the sequel Ginga S much more. But no worries. The Ultra franchise has such a long list of shows that you won't easily run out of things to watch if you want to get back into it again.

Well, the old Ultra series tend to be formulaic, so I admit I prefer the newer series since they seem to shake up the formula more. The old shows are also quite brutal (monsters get heads and/or other body parts cut off a lot, or sliced in half, etc.), since I guess children from that time could take (or at least wouldn't be disturbed by) violence in their entertainment. That said, there are a few older shows I really like. As for the anime, I actually haven't seen it, but I think it's probably similar to the human-acted older shows, only animated.
