Fanfic Writer Meme
Okay, not getting tagged. I'm simply taking this from several people. Hope they don't mind.
How about a brief introduction?
This is Sennetari. I write more stuff than could be considered healthy.
Fabulous! And what got you into fanfiction to begin with?
Well, probably like everyone else, I started by reading other people's stories. Over time, I got inspired and said, "I have a story to tell, too." I don't know, it actually sort of just happened. One minute I'm reading, the next I'm writing. Originally, my stories were for my own amusement, but I saw people posting their stories, and went, "what's stopping me from sharing my stories?" Yes, there were something. I was afraid of flames and such. I didn't think my stories were bad, but they were rather different, and if anyone had been reading my fics at any length of time, they would know the prevailing theme that made me sort of uncomfortable sharing my stories. But I was only human, so I succumbed in the end. I wanted feedback. While any kind of feedback is fine with me, of course the positive ones would make me smile more.
I see. So what kind of fanfiction do you like to write?
A little fantasy, romance, everyday stuff. The prevailing theme mentioned in the previous answer is gender switching theme. Nope, I don't write serious stuff that really explore the confused identity crisis, but I would love to read well-done stories that deal with it. I look more at gender switching as an escape, as a not necessarily realistic what-if. It is somewhat of a guilty pleasure of mine to change a normal male into a female and vice versa.
Do you find writing easy? Hard? What are the aspects of writing you struggle most with?
Writing is easy, sometimes. I love writing dialogue. One fic I posted here practically wrote itself. As for what I find difficult, it is the description. I'm never any good at putting the readers where they are supposed to be without stating outright the location. Other things are the action/fight scenes. I would avoid them if I can, but sometimes the story calls for them, so I have to improvise the best I can. I wish I could give such scenes more importance to do more research on them, but I personally don't like violence, so...
Write a few sentences or so of your favorite pairing or character.
Perhaps I'm not original, but...
Are there any fanfiction clichés or trends you're sick of or just can't stand?
Not really, I suppose. Mostly I'm lucky in my fanfic reading.
Are you guilty of any fanfiction clichés you hate? Or any other ones?
Clichés, huh? I could only think of the dreaded mary-sues. Still, I don't really hate the mary-sues, probably because, as I said in the previous answer, I haven't really come across them. I don't really write them either, but maybe I might do it unconsciously, where the protagonist seems too good to be true. Not that the canon stuff is completely devoid of a canon sue either, such as the amazing mama from MEBIUS.
That said, though, I don't really care for Original Character. When I read a fanfic for a particular series, I want to read about the characters in the series, not about other people. But I'm guilty of putting OCs in my own fics anyway, so I'm probably a hypocrite. I did the self-inserts, too, before I knew any better. I would hide under the rock if those stories were unearthed.
What was the first fandom you wrote for, and do you still like/participate in it?
Zorro. Sadly, I no longer participate it it.
Name your OTPs or most frequently written pairings/characters and explain what it is about them that you love to write.
Has to be Mirai/Ryuu (or however the slash convention wants me to note them) from MEBIUS at this point. I don't have a good explanation other than I feel they are made for each other.
What would you call your writing style?
Short and clipped. I'm very scarce with words and tend to leave things out a lot. Because I can fill out the details in my own head, and unreasonably expect other people to be able to do so, too.
Do you read other people’s fanfic? If so, what do you find yourself reading the most?
Yes. Although, to be honest, I don't really read MEBIUS fics when I'm working on my own (unless they are about things I'm pretty sure I would never touch on), since I really don't want to inadvertently copy ideas/expressions. Make me wish I'm just a fic reader in this fandom, because I would gladly re-read fics (and there are many I want to).
Name one thing you'd LOVE to write, but have been too afraid or shy to do.
I don't have anything that I love to write but feel compelled to hold back, yet. Is this conceit speaking? I don't know. If you are talking about posting them, that's another story entirely.
Do you have trouble taking criticism? Or worse yet, do you have the dreaded bloated ego?
No, I don't. In fact, I wish my fics get more criticized. But then I can't expect a casual reader to do the beta work for me. (Yes, I've gotten a few of my fics beaten up before, so this is not a naive wish of someone who doesn't really know what she wants.)
But yeah, I suppose I do have the dreaded bloated ego, otherwise I would be content to let fics stay on my hard drive.
When you write, is there anything that helps? Music? Quiet room?
Nope, not really.
What inspires you?
I take inspiration from everywhere. Books, movies, TV shows, writings, academic paper (yes, that happened), drawings, pictures, the neighbors, etc. Name any usual (or unusual) source, I probably get inspired from it at least once. And sometimes I twist what I get so that I can name the source but hardly anyone would know what I've taken from it.
Lastly, how would you sum up your fanfiction experiences and yourself as a writer?
Enjoyable, when I get caught up in the moment. Difficult to look at when I sort of lose my enthusiasm for a particular story. It happens. I can't stay in love with any one story forever. That said, I'm still mostly proud of everything I've written, even the embarrassing ones I never want to see again.

I can't spread memes normally, so maybe this will be a chance for me to force someone. But nah.
