(Well, it's almost a month into 2013 already, so might as well put this up. I'm probably not going to be able to improve it even if I let it stay on my computer any longer.)

Ah, I did this meme two years ago. No longer remember where from the f-list I stole the meme from. ^^;

Mostly toku answers, I think. I'm kind of predictable this time around. )

So what's in store for me this year? More toku (or at least live-action), probably. Specifically, I'd like to watch more Ultraman, preferably newer stuff, but there seems to be no current TV series, as far as I know, other than Ultraman Retsuden. Either way, I'm still not up to date on the Ultras.

Ah, I very much enjoyed seeing the London arc animated (though there are some scenes I like better in the manga), though I suspect my enjoyment was in part because I have been to Europe recently (not England, however, but Russia). And feel like my timing was pretty much perfect, even though I didn't even consciously think about it when I watched. Although it's Wimbledon, not an Olympic event, that Conan and gang go to.

Loose comments that will spoil but hopefully not too much... )

Well, I didn't take notes so I couldn't put in everything about this arc. Besides, I think it's best if DC fans watch/read the London arc themselves (manga chapters 743 to 752), if for some reason they still haven't gotten around to it. Personally, I think it's worth it just for a certain canon pairing.

OVA 11 (side story to the London arc) summary, so expect some spoilers. )

Anyway, while I'm up-to-date with the manga, I am still a long way off in catching up with DC anime. I don't think I've watched even 100 episodes (and I usually only picked those cases I liked in the manga) in the four years I've seen the anime on and off (apparently I've started around some time after I watched those two live action specials since I liked them enough, though I'm kinda glad they replaced the two main leads in later specials and drama series) and DC has over 660 episodes last I checked...

Oh, and randomly enough, the ending theme for this set of episodes and the OVA, 'Tsukiyo no Itazura no Mahou' (Mischievous Magic on the Moonlit Night), makes me see a crack pairing (unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, not a pairing from the DC fandom) that I cannot unsee.

Yes, I'm a year late in watching Detective Conan drama series. Crime of passion, making out, continuity error, boring wardrobe -- not that I really discuss any of those, nor much of the case itself. I'm more interested in the guest character, whose actor I didn't exactly remember. )

Well, that's it. I won't tell anyone to check out this drama because I don't want people blaming me if illogical deductions make them feel like they've wasted their time. Not even for the guest actor of this episode, really. Even though I think he has come far from his tokusatsu days... Not even because it's short (13 episodes, about 30 minutes each), since the thing is so cheesy, even by my standards. Then again, it doesn't matter to me if something is the worst (and/or insert other negative descriptors here) thing ever produced, as long as it entertains me...

EDIT: Oh, it's a midnight mystery show, not evening as I originally thought. That explains all the adult-oriented content.
sennetari: Floral with my journal name on it (Default)
Well, after thinking it over, I've decided to post Gintama-related entries on [livejournal.com profile] kanaratama from now on. (Other Shounen JUMP series might also show up there from time to time, especially if Gintama has parodied them.)

And just so this entry has something, I'm tagging this on.

I'm wondering, which is the "real" version of a fictional character? Would it have to be the one written by the original creator only? Or would the various incarnations of this character in official adaptations/derivative works be considered "real", too?

Example is of character A, anime/manga series B, and mangaka C variety. In the end, I guess I'm thinking too much about all this. )

I think the part under the cut is somewhat confusing (I don't know how to express it better at this moment), but hopefully not totally unreadable...
sennetari: Floral with my journal name on it (Perfectly Charming)
VS Three O'clock & Strawberry VS Takachin & Gin-san & the Jugem monkey
(The last two are all anime voice actor references, so blocked to keep up illusion.)

(Me: Several have already answered Today's Writer's Block for me, so I'm not answering it.
Gin: They have not answered for you. You just happen to like what they wrote.
Me: I don't like what they wrote. It's simply what I would have written as my answer.
Gin: That's nonsense right there.)

Part of my very long author's note that I just have to put somewhere before September 26. Every series mentioned by name is tagged, even if it is just one line (and/or in a censored form). Most of the mentions are just voice actor references, though. )

Still in dialog (but not necessarily in character), spoilers for Gintama episodes 225-226 (and mentions of 107-108 (I think?), 110). )
sennetari: Floral with my journal name on it (Family Dearest)
Plot (or lack thereof) of Gintama )

Not really a review, but just some of my impressions of the volumes of manga I picked up this week. Assume spoilers on all these, though sometimes I'm scarce on the details.

Death Note V 12 (Final Volume): Predictable, but that's not my complaint. )
Gintama V 36
Honestly, this has to be my least favorite Gintama volume to date. But since this is Gintama, I powered through anyway. (I'll take a so-so volume of Gintama over many other series.) So take it as a warning that most of the comments are not positive.

Boring wall of text not exactly summarizing what happen in this volume ) Manga match up with anime )
Natsume Yuujincho V 7
Well, after the two series above, I'm glad at least Natsume (the character) is being good old Natsume. But I have to admit I've read better volumes of this series. I don't hate the new character, but I think the series might be better off without him. ) Other neat stuff )
Bakuman V 1
In a nutshell, this is a manga about two teenagers writing manga to sell to Shueisha (JUMP, specifically) since they were aiming to get their manga animated. Come this way if that description makes the cut )

Babbling. )
sennetari: Floral with my journal name on it (Natsume & Nyanko-sensei)
From two anime series I watched this week (one line from each):

Cooking competition will always remind me of Delicious Gakuin.

For me, An-chan (big brother) is always going to be associated with Yamada Taro.

(Doubt any of these make sense to anyone not watching any of the episodes I watched... And perhaps they still wouldn't make any sense otherwise either. ^^;;)

And for Summer, not counting the two unnamed series (which hopefully will run past the summer) revealed under the cut (and in tags, of course), I think I'll be watching Ouran live-action (Alata as Hunny-senpai, do want. And I wanted Yusuke Yamamoto to be Tamaki ever since the drama was a rumor back in 2007) <--(maybe still rumored cast list? ETA on 28 June: Official cast list, yay. :) (Sorry for not correcting this earlier.) But I'll still watch even if there is no toku people I (sort of) know (or no one I know, period) in the cast) and Natsume San. Not active in either of these fandoms right now so I welcome the opportunity to get back into them. :)

After I wrote this entry, I went shopping and happened to pick up a magazine with the crossover of the two anime referenced on top of this entry. )

ETA like whoa (especially inside the cut). I should go now since this is over my lazy limit already...
sennetari: Floral with my journal name on it (I love sugar :))
Oh wow, this site is so much fun. :)

Akinator

I found this while random site surfing. The person who recommended it also helpfully let me know that I can save the questions asked by clicking on "details", so I've been saving most of them. :)

Akinator can guess some live-action characters, and apparently real people, too. But I haven't really tried (well, two times on a toku character (you should know who, really, even though I've been neglecting his series), but I stumped Aki both times).

So since I thought maybe Aki liked anime/manga stuff better, I've been trying for six Gintama characters and three other anime/manga characters. I did perfectly for four characters (I know them well or what ^___^), not too perfectly for two characters (I need brushing up on some details of their characters), less than perfectly for one character (well, I'm not so surprised if it's this character), and kind of terrible for two characters (Aki confused me...or I confused Aki ^^;;).

Details and screenshots of my results. :) Will spoil the questions asked for these characters so perhaps you might not want to look too closely at the questions. )

In any case, hope you have fun if you play with Akinator. ^___^
sennetari: Floral with my journal name on it (Moonlight Gin-san)
Honestly, this is one of the most intensely beautiful episodes of Gintama I've ever seen. And it's not like this series is lacking in episodes of such caliber. Yes, many have praised this episode, but, at the same time, it has brought along more annoying comments than I have ever seen in any other episode discussion. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for folks having different opinions from mine. That is, as long as they try to be polite and respectful (and sure, I'm going to try to be polite and respectful in return), and that they are actually talking about the series under discussion.

I'm typing this as I go, so I'm rearranging it in the way that might make no sense. Spoilers for this episode (and episode 206, probably). Manga comparisons, but not anything after the events in this episode. )

Since almost everything under the sun gets referenced in Gintama, I can't say I'm surprised that two former kamen rider actors get mentioned by their hair(style). A screencap, a video clip, and a wall of text. Basically the same things as the first cut also apply here. )

Basically the same things as the first cut apply to this cut. )

::sighs:: I am hopelessly behind on toku and everything else since Gintama has taken over my life. Can't really decide if that is a good thing or a bad thing...

ETA: Now, [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants, don't make me think you're talking about me.

...I'm not sure why I'm posting this up since I might delete it when I come to my senses and I'm going to leave now and not look back. Anyway, this is an unpolished excerpt from a sort of(?) slash fic (because if you've ever read some of my fics before (or are good at picking up hints), you probably could tell where I'm going with one of the guys. Otherwise, I recommend you stop here) that I can't really write more at this time. And, just so I don't waste your time, it is not from a fandom I've written for before...

More notes (irrelevant, most likely) and fic excerpt under cut )
sennetari: Floral with my journal name on it (Book Voyage)
I feel like I'd already talked about most of this before in one form or another scattered around my journal, but anyway...

Why I write what I write? Or what make me pick which fandom to write for, out of all the ones I like? (Stolen from the discussion back in January on [livejournal.com profile] ffr_discussion (What gets you writing?))

Ah, stealing from f-list is what I do. :) Probably listing series mostly unheard of, but oh well.

My list. Mostly obscure stuff (and largely anime), except Goseiger, OOO, and W (and maybe slight spoilers for them) )

Umm. I've listed almost everything I've seen with Marina Inoue doing voice work in. Would include TTGL, but I don't think it really fits any category here. Besides, I've finished everything (well, specials and movies don't count) on the list (except the 'not get into' one and the two on-going ones--which I'm current as far as subs go).

Happy New Year to everyone reading this. :)
sennetari: Floral with my journal name on it (Default)
...I probably have said something similar before, but I can only seem to find something to talk about when I notice a problem (or more) with a show/series. And that's only when I have an energy and can be bothered to do so, so perhaps some other problematic shows do get ignored by me. (Exception: If a show has no redeeming quality, I'm not going to waste time writing anything.) However, if the show is fabulous and seemingly does no wrong (well, strictly from my point of view), I smile and move on. (That's why I can never write any kind of pimp post.) And also, unless I know there are other people liking the same thing I do, I don't particularly want to be judged for admitting to liking this series or that series. I suppose I don't usually feel up to defending my taste. Case in point, 'genderbending, ecchi, harem' anime is not for everyone (actually, 'ecchi' and 'harem' are not even for me most of the time), but I'm watching Kämpfer, so...)

Back to the main topic of this post, I don't think Kämpfer is that well-known (though I don't think it's unknown either), but I would still cut detailed discussions, which may or may not be considered spoilers, just in case. (They are the type that make no sense to people not watching the series, and some people who do watch might not mind. Seriously though, how can anyone truly spoil an episode consisting of an almost neverending date taking up most of the episode? (Or 'nothing really happens' is considered a spoiler, then?))

And, if anyone is still interested, be forewarned that besides everything being Kämpfer-related from this point on (except the very last paragraph), my unnecessary Japanese quoting probably does not go over too well since I don't have the written script for the episode and just go by my limited understanding of the language. So I would say don't believe any of my quote and corresponding translation (if any) without verifying it.

I'm too amused to see-er-hear a (politer?) version of 'oboe teoke' in this anime. And while 'toorisugari no [whatever subject]' seems rather popular at the moment, I'm disappointed that there is nothing passing through in this anime. )

Stop ruining the mood already, Natsuru! )

Ordering around an anime (or other fictional) character who makes no secret he/she is fearful of you, imho, is hardly going to make him/her interested... )

Yeah, love is blind... )

Other random comments on the episode )

When a 'tsumaranai mono' is really a 'tsumaranai mono' :) )

Oh, well. I'll keep watching, I suppose. Real genderbending (though not one instance of it is in this episode other than OP and ED) anime (or live-action) are hard to come by so I don't get to be really choosy. But I'm not looking forward to taking almost two hours and a half to watch one 24 minute episode again, though.

(Not that anyone has asked or possibly will ask, but it took that long because I paused every few minutes in an (unsuccessful) attempt to forget the main chara's stupidity...)

I love the manga, though, and already bought all the volumes out. (Not volume 3, since I don't yet see it around where I live.) One thing I'm sad about is anime is pretty far ahead of manga already. Anime is based on Light Novel (seems like a popular practice lately to adapt anime from that source), which I might just try to read raw (since there is no translation). Or maybe not. I think out of all three, overall I prefer the manga the most.

And kind of inspired from way up above: power imbalance in a relationship. )

My list of shoujo manga with a guy as the main character. )

And the latest one to join that rank is: NG Life by Mizuho Kusanagi.

I think most everyone else (on the web) can summarize this series better than I can anyway, so I'm just going to talk about what I notice personally. Spoilers, of course, though I try to make them vague, and probably spoilers for Don't Mind Princess, although I wonder if anyone looking at this has ever heard of that series...

Lately, I'm feeling kind of left out, again. This time, it's not so much of me wondering if I'm a fan (I've decided that I am, even though I'm mostly silent), but more of my different takes on things.

Fanfics and fandom and my reactions to them. )

(Just to be clear, I'm not upset or anything. This is more of me wondering why.)

Well, too many incomplete thoughts, I have, and some I don't really want to talk about, so a meme instead:

There's a meme that'd been floating around the middle of last month, I think, to post one sentence from each of your current work in progress. Well, I can't really resist. Since I think these stuff will never really see the light of day anyway, I might as well post excerpts (that make absolutely no sense without context). Not to whet appetite or anything, since one of these is from a fic in the fandom of one (seriously; I can't locate any English fic for it online, and not that I'm too sure Japanese ones exist either). The other one isn't exactly a fandom of one, but I'm not involved with it, so it kind of feels almost the same.

fic excerpts )
sennetari: Floral with my journal name on it (Jun & Shizuka)
I read this shoujo manga (ultimately a straight one, not yaoi, though there are hints on the latter aplenty) and have many, many thoughts on it (which I think I might get a dedicated manga blog to post them to once and for all). One of those thoughts is this manga has finally given me a reason to really like the name Jun as a male name, and the name Shizuka as a name in general, simply because the characters with these names are just so cool. (Yay, I never said I wasn't shallow (the icon), though most of the time I don't mean just surface appearances by 'cool'.)

On Jun )

On Shizuka )

Strangely, I don't think I'll ever end up naming my characters with these two names. Weird, since I usually use the names I like for my characters, but the associations (mental images I have) with the established characters who have the names are just too strong, particularly in Shizuka's case, because he's constantly referred to that way by the heroine.

Edit:

純 (JUN) means pure, and never used alone except as a name, so no 'kun' reading. And yes, that's a kanji character for 'thread' on the left side.
